As a former military surgeon, Innovative Trauma Care (iTraumaCare) Chief Medical Officer Dennis Filips knows trauma injury, which led to his development of an innovative hemorrhage control device that has been welcomed in markets around the world. He sees TEC Edmonton’s new partnership with Toronto-based investment bank Bloom Burton & Co. (“Bloom Burton”) as a way to bring needed growth capital to companies like his. “We have a great product. We have great customers. We’ve had great support from local investors, and now, as we launch worldwide, we welcome the opportunity for the new TEC Edmonton – Bloom Burton partnership to help us grow our business.”

Companies like iTraumaCare, and their needs for growth capital, led incubator TEC Edmonton to form a new partnership with Bloom Burton, Canada’s premier healthcare investment banking firm.

Recently named “2014 Incubator of the Year” by Startup Canada and “10th Best University Incubator in the World” by the 2014 University Business Index (UBI), TEC Edmonton will launch its new TEC Health Accelerator initiative on November 27, 2014, with the support of Bloom Burton.

The TEC Health Accelerator, an initiative led by TEC Edmonton and partnered with Innovate Calgary, accelerates the growth of Alberta biotechnology companies and will help to connect community entrepreneurs with medical and scientific researchers in Alberta, investors, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and industry partners in the human health, animal health and agriculture sectors. By bridging the gap between these entities, TEC Edmonton and Bloom Burton aim to broker major financing or partnership deals for clients in the healthcare space.

“Bloom Burton’s successful track record, approach to growing companies and exclusive dedication to healthcare make it a natural partner for TEC Health Accelerator,” said Chris Lumb, TEC Edmonton CEO. “By combining Bloom Burton’s resources with our Alberta innovation connections and expertise, our clients will gain access to new markets, funding, research, and innovation services to help them grow even faster.”

“In our view, TEC Edmonton has assembled every ingredient necessary to help healthcare companies succeed in Alberta,” commented Brian Bloom of Bloom Burton. “Our firm is dedicated to providing advice and capital to extraordinary Canadian healthcare companies, and by partnering with TEC Edmonton, we are excited to identify and support those in Alberta.”

The official TEC Health Accelerator launch event will take place on November 27, 2014, at The Westin Edmonton where more details on the new program will be announced. For more information, visit www.tecedmonton.com or contact:
